Malta Permanent Residence Programme (MPRP) Price Increase

New prices announced to take effect January 01, 2025.

The Maltese government has announced significant changes to the Malta Permanent Residence Programme (MPRP), effective January 1, 2025. These changes will increase the cost of residency applications, making now the best time to secure your Malta Permanent Residence under the current, more affordable terms.

If you are considering applying for the MPRP program, also known as the "Malta Golden Visa", we strongly urge you to act now to take advantage of the current, lower rates.

Key Changes Effective January 1, 2025

1. Government Administrative Fee:

o Increasing from EUR 40,000 to EUR 50,000.

2. Government Financial Contribution:

o Property Purchase Scenario: Increasing from EUR 28,000 to EUR 30,000.

o Property Rental Scenario: Increasing from EUR 58,000 to EUR 60,000.

3. New Application Fees for All Dependants:

o A fee of EUR 10,000 per dependant (EUR 5,000 administrative fee + EUR 5,000 financial contribution), applying to all spouses, children, parents, and grandparents.

4. Qualifying Property Costs:

o Minimum purchase value increasing to EUR 375,000.

o Minimum annual rent increasing to EUR 14,000 regardless of location in Malta.

5. Minimum Net Worth Requirement:

o Show assets worth at least EUR 500,000, with at least EUR 150,000 in liquid assets, or assets worth at least EUR 650,000, with at least EUR 75,000 in liquid assets.

Why Apply Now?

Applying before December 31, 2024 locks in the current, lower government fees. Here’s how the price increases could affect you, if you are planning to purchase a private residence in Malta. These calculations exclude the property purchase price and legal fees:

• Single Applicant: Current Cost: EUR 70,000 → New Cost: EUR 82,000.

• Husband & Spouse: Current Cost: EUR 70,000 → New Cost: EUR 92,000.

• Family of Four: Current Cost: EUR 70,000 → New Cost: EUR 102,000.

Here are the changes if you are planning to rent a private residence in Malta. These calculations exclude the property rental and legal fees:

• Single Applicant: Current Cost: EUR 110,000 → New Cost: EUR 126,000.

• Husband & Spouse: Current Cost: EUR 110,000 → New Cost: EUR 136,000.

• Family of Four: Current Cost: EUR 110,000 → New Cost: EUR 156,000.

How to Apply

To take advantage of the current, lower rates, an initial set of application documents must be submitted to the government by December 31, 2024 and the remaining documents must be submitted by March 28, 2025. However - to allow for sufficient document review and verifications, our office needs to receive the initial set of application files as soon as possible, but not later than December 16. All inquiries will be handled in the order they are received.
