Malta MPRP Changes for 2025

Why Malta?

Malta offers unparalleled access to the European lifestyle, including visa-free travel within the Schengen Zone, world-class healthcare, education, and the ability to live, work, or retire in a stable and culturally rich environment.

By applying in 2024, you can lock in the current lower costs and begin the journey to a brighter future for you and your family.

What’s Changing?

Starting January 1, 2025, the following updates will apply:

A) Updated Eligibility Criteria

Starting in 2025, to qualify for the MPRP program, applicants must present proof of assets to establish they can support themselves financially during and after the residency application process. An applicant’s assets need to total at least €500,000, including a minimum of €150,000 in financial assets, such as cash balances, stocks and bond portfolios, or similar. Alternatively, applicants can show €650,000 in total assets, with at least €75,000 in financial assets.

B) Administration Fees / Contributions

Starting in 2025, the following government fees and real estate requirements apply.

• Administrative Fees: The main applicant fee rises to €50,000.

• Dependant Fees: All dependants - including spouses, children, parents, and grandparents - will incur fees of €10,000 each (€5,000 administrative + €5,000 financial contribution).

• Qualifying Property Costs: Minimum purchase value increases to €375,000, and minimum annual rent rises to €14,000.

• Contribution Fees: Applicants who choose to rent will contribute €60,000, while those purchasing property will contribute €30,000 to Malta’s social and economic development, such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other public services.

C) Special Considerations for Families

Starting in 2025, the program allows adult children aged 18-28 to be included as dependants if they are unmarried and financially reliant on the main applicant.
