May 2020: COVID in Malta
As we are heading towards summer there is hope that Malta
has turned the corner. In comparison to many other EU countries
Malta has fared much better during the COVID-19 crisis,
currently logging only about 100 active cases, 6 fatalities,
and over 460 recoveries!
Thus, beginning Friday, restaurants, cafe's, and open-air
cinemas will open again, as will fitness classes and non-contact
sports events. People will be allowed to congregate, although
group size will be limited to no more than 6 persons. Additional
services to be reopened include outdoor markets, public
swimming pools, certain hotels, hair salons, and non-COVID
related health and medical services provided that large
gatherings of people are avoided.
What about travel to Malta?
While there is no date set when the airport will open again,
Malta is in discussions with certain countries to open safe
travel corridors that would allow access to our country
from select nations, according to Prime Minister Robert
Abela. At this time we have no additional details about
these travel corridors, but we will monitor the situation
and advise you as more information becomes available over
the next days and weeks.
Apply now or wait?
Because we expect a large number of immigration applications
to flood the system as soon as travel opens up again we
encourage clients who have decided Malta residency or citizenship
is right for them to start their applications now. There
is no need to travel to Malta for several weeks while we
work with you to fill out all forms and gather all supporting
documentation.
Starting now will put you ahead of the crowd, and filing
before the flood of petitions arrives means your application
will be one of the first to be processed by the government.
Lastly, and as mentioned in our previous newsletter, there
are currently several COVID-19 discounts available. If you're
ready we suggest locking in your deal now before these offers
expire. Who doesn't love a discount?
