IIP Citizenship Program Quota Reached
On June 03, 2020 our office received a notification
issued by the Malta government that the Individual Investor
Program (IIP) is about to reach its cap. Therefore, new
applications will no longer be accepted if submitted after
July 31, 2020.
Because preparing an application case file, including official forms and their supporting documentation, can take several weeks, we urge all of our current and prospective clients to start the application process immediately.
Specifically:
- Applications for Malta residency (IIP Step 1) will no longer be accepted after July 31, 2020.
- Applications for Malta citizenship (IIP Step 2) will no longer be accepted after September 30, 2020.
If you have not yet started any step of the IIP application process, you must submit a complete application package for Step 1 (Malta residency) before July 31, 2020.
If you have started the IIP application process, and you have received residency status, you must submit a complete application package for Step 2 (Malta citizenship) before September 30, 2020.
If you have received residency status, but you don't manage to file the citizenship application before September 30, your case may or may not be considered under the recently elected new government (decided on a case by case basis).
Once the quota is reached, the current IIP program will be discontinued. However, the new government has indicated that it would consider launching a revised program with investment requirements yet unannounced.
Given continued pressure from Brussels to tighten the flow of immigration into the EU we expect the new program - if launched - to make immigration to Malta more difficult and/or expensive. Hence we recommend applying under the current rules while applications are still being accepted.
Please contact us at any time with your questions or comments.
Because the Malta immigration by investment program details can change over time please contact us about the current rules and regulations.
