Argentina Announces New Citizenship
by Investment Program
A new South American citizenship option is emerging—but it may
not be the right pathway for everyone.
Argentina Announces New Citizenship by Investment Program
Argentina has announced plans to launch its Citizenship by Investment
Program, with applications expected to open in Q4 2026. The program
is expected to offer qualifying applicants a route to Argentine
citizenship without a prescribed period of prior residence.
What we know so far
Two principal investment
routes have been announced:
• USD 350,000 non-refundable
contribution (donation) to the Argentine Treasury for a single applicant
• USD 800,000 investment in an Argentine sovereign bond
Family members may also be included, subject to additional
contributions and eligibility requirements. Argentina permits dual
citizenship, and its passport provides visa-free or visa-on-arrival
access to more than 160 countries.
Importantly, applications
are not yet open, and the final framework, procedures, fees and
commencement date remain subject to confirmation by the Argentine
authorities.
Is Argentina the right fit?
For some internationally mobile families, Argentina
may offer an interesting combination of citizenship, lifestyle,
regional mobility and diversification.
But an investment-based
citizenship route is not necessarily the best answer for everyone.
For individuals whose case is built around business, innovation,
science, culture, sport, philanthropy or another significant contribution,
Malta’s Citizenship by Merit (CBM) framework may be worth considering
instead.
The two approaches are fundamentally different:
Argentina’s announced pathway is centered on a qualifying financial
contribution/donation or investment, while Malta CBM focuses on
an applicant’s merit and contribution.
Two different
pathways. One important question. The right citizenship
strategy depends on more than the size of an investment. Your background,
objectives, family circumstances, source of funds and the nature
of the contribution you can make may all influence which pathway
is appropriate.
If Argentina interests you, we can help
you follow the developing framework and assess whether it may be
relevant to your circumstances.
And if your profile is based
on exceptional achievement rather than a qualifying investment,
we can also explore whether Malta CBM may be a better fit.

you.
