MPRP — Family Benefits & Inclusion

As of

MPRP allows spouse/partner, dependent children, and dependent parents/grandparents; residents access Malta’s education and healthcare systems as permanent residents.

Can adult children be included?

Yes—if unmarried and financially dependent (typically up to age 29). Evidence of dependency may be requested.

Can we add newborns after approval?

Yes. Notify the agency and complete the add-on formalities; new cards are then issued.

Do residents receive the same benefits as citizens?

No. MPRP grants permanent residence; some benefits differ from citizenship entitlements.

Are step-children or adopted children eligible?

Yes—if legally recognized and dependency criteria are met. Provide court/adoption or custody documents.

Can dependent parents or grandparents be added later?

Yes, subject to dependency proof and program procedures. Expect extra review time for each add-on.

What counts as “financial dependency” for adult children?

Evidence such as tuition receipts, bank support, or shared household finances. Case specifics vary.

What happens if a dependent marries or becomes self-supporting?

They usually cease to qualify as a dependent and may need their own status; inform the authority promptly.

Do all family members need health insurance?

Yes. Comprehensive coverage is required for every included applicant and must be maintained.

How does schooling work for resident children?

Access to Malta’s education system is available; admissions and fees follow school/university policies.

Can my spouse/partner work in Malta?

Permanent residents may apply for a work permit; normal labour and licensing rules apply.

Is Schengen travel available to all dependents?

Yes—each approved card holder has 90/180-day Schengen mobility after approval.

Does including more family affect fees?

Yes—some government/admin fees vary by family composition; budget for additional dependents.

What if parents live outside my household?

You can still evidence dependency (e.g., regular financial support). Documentation is key.

How are name or date-of-birth mismatches handled?

Provide official proof (name-change certificates, birth registry extracts) and keep spellings consistent.

Do we need fresh police certificates for adult dependents?

Yes—each adult usually submits their own background checks for relevant jurisdictions.

What if our address or property changes?

Notify your representative and maintain a qualifying lease/purchase. Keep insurance and means current.

How are divorce or separation handled?

Report changes. Eligibility of a spouse/partner may cease; dependent minors are handled case-by-case.

Can adult children “age out” during processing?

If they pass the age/dependency threshold before decision, they may need separate consideration or status.

Are vaccinations or medical exams required?

No universal vaccine list is published for MPRP, but full health-insurance coverage is mandatory.

Will MPRP make us tax-resident in Malta?

Not automatically. Tax residency depends on presence and other factors; obtain tailored tax advice.
