New Malta Citizenship Program Requirements

July 2020:A first glimpse at what might change.

As previously advised, the current Malta IIP citizenship by investment program will be discontinued later this month, and no new applications will be accepted past July 31, 2020.

Should you want to apply under the current program regulations your application would need to be started immediately to allow for sufficient time to collect all supporting documentation prior to the deadline.

Should you prefer to wait until the new program will be announced, possibly as early as September, we would like to point you to an article recently published by the Times of Malta newspaper.

While there are no official guidelines regarding the new citizenship by investment program yet, the Times of Malta reports that the new program is expected to be more expensive and difficult to qualify for.

Specifically, the newspaper reports the following changes:

• Applicants might have to live in Malta for at least one (01) year before being allowed to apply for citizenship.

• The investment will be increased from EUR 650,000 to EUR 750,000 for applicants who wish to apply for citizenship after living in Malta for one (01) year.

• The investment will be decreased from EUR 650,000 to EUR 600,000 for applicants who wish to apply for citizenship after living in Malta for three (03) years.

• The minimum value of a property purchase will increase from EUR 350,000 to EUR 700,000.

• There will be a new mandatory philanthropic donation in the amount of EUR 10,000.
